This game did a lot of things right. The fighting and combo mechanics are great, the graphics are solid, and it has some cool parkour type elements. It also has a unique leveling system that allows you to upgrade your character with various mutant abilities.
The game is based on three mutants who must choose between the X-MEN or Magneto and the Brotherhood. During play you are given several decisions. Good decisions equal faction with X-MEN and bad with the Brotherhood. By the end you must choose a side. Good or Evil?
The game also has a cool conversation mechanic where you can interact with members of the X-Men or Brotherhood. This would be great if I was interested in the plot. Unfortunately this is somewhere the game falls short. I found myself skipping through conversations because I just didn’t care. “Shut up Cyclops and give me a mission!” In fact the main story line is pretty uninspired and under produced. The game was still fun though.
Did I mention you get to fight a SENTINEL?
Yea this was by far my favorite part, who doesn’t want to take on a 30 foot, missile shooting, laser beaming, bad ass, mutant killing robot? Really cool and really fun.
One last thing……
I am not sure who was responsible for character design but it is garbage. Nightcrawler and Wolverine look cool but most characters just look stupid. It’s like the art director said, “I’m thinking Gay Ice Skater”
