“If you’ve played one Spider-Man, you’ve played them all.”
A direct quote from the Dbag clerk at Gamestop when I asked about The Amazing Spider-man. Based on his Dbag opinion I guess I played them all and should have stopped at the Atari 2600. (See Below)
Listen, over the years I have played a lot of spider-man games on a lot of systems and each one has been unique and valuable in its own way. The fact is Spider-Games are a staple, all systems have several of these and in my eyes are like Madden, Street Fighter or even Tony Hawk. It is not only a pop culture icon but a unique type of game play and mechanic that exists only in Spider-Games. Sure not every title is the best, some even suck but they are all unique and playing one by no means you have played them all.
Some were Good
Some were Great
Yes some sucked
But you can’t say if you played one, you’ve played them all. Well you can but it makes you a D-bag.
Moving on. The Amazing Spider-Man was good, maybe even great.
It is by far the best Spider-Game on the 360 to date and is better than any movie based game I can think of. It takes all of the elements that makes other Spider-games great and adds some new features that truly makes it stand out over other web slingers. The graphics are solid the mechanics are smooth and the story line is fun. I really can’t say enough good things about this Spider-Game.
The open world environment offers tons of extra features including side missions, collectibles (Over 700 of them) and lots and lots of web slinging. The web slinging in this game is simplified in comparison to others but also very smooth and strait forward. Plus it does not share the common glitches found in other similar titles. No accidentally sticking to walls, missing ledges or not having a skyscraper tall enough to catch a web with. The slinging also brings a new feature called web rush which is basically bullet time allowing slow motion web targeting. Another neat new feature is a stealth mode that gives you a predator style hunting system similar to Batman.
I do not really have any complaints. It is by no means the greatest game to ever grace a console but it is a good game and a Great Spider-Game. As a pop culture maniac, avid comic reader and video game lover I can say this is good stuff and the perfect hybrid between these things.
